Polyethylene glycol mediated drought stress impacts on germination, growth and accumulation of proline in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

چکیده
Drought is one of the major stress factors affecting growth and development plants, responsible for considerable crop yield losses worldwide. An experiment was conducted to compare three rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties (BRRI dhan49, BRRI dhan71 dhan75) drought tolerance based on some parameters physiological status in germination stage. imposed by five levels polyethylene glycol (PEG) (0%, 10%, 15%, 20% 25%). Rice showed good with PEG concentration up 15%. At concentration, a sharp reduction percentage observed highest (55.53%) found variety dhan71. Seeds all treated 25% did not germinate. Seedling terms plumule radicle length, fresh weight dry decreased increasing varieties. Among varieties, be best at seedling growth. treatments length vigor index rice, whereas were obtained from Accumulation proline increased along increase concentration. The accumulation (3.08 mmol g-1 leaf) higher treatment (20% PEG). This result suggests that performance under because its own nature tolerance. SAARC J. Agric., 20(1): 107-119 (2022)

Seed priming with polyethylene glycol regulating the physiological and molecular mechanism in rice (Oryza sativa L.) under nano-ZnO stress
The present study was designed to highlight the impact of seed priming with polyethylene glycol on physiological and molecular mechanism of two cultivars of Oryza sativa L. under different levels of zinc oxide nanorods (0, 250, 500 and 750 mg L(-1)). Plant growth parameters were significantly increased in seed priming with 30% PEG under nano-ZnO stress in both cultivars. Whereas, this increase ...
متن کاملDNA methylation involved in proline accumulation in response to osmotic stress in rice (Oryza sativa).
Proline accumulation is involved in plant osmotic stress tolerance. Given that DNA methylation is related to almost all metabolic processes through regulation of gene expression, we suspected that this epigenetic modification and proline biosynthesis are probably related. To test this, we investigated whether osmotic stress-induced proline accumulation is associated with DNA methylation modific...
متن کاملRoles of plant hormones and anti-apoptosis genes during drought stress in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
We previously identified the rice (Oryza sativa) senescence-associated gene OsSAP which encodes a highly conserved protein involved in anti-apoptotic activity. This novel Bax suppressor-related gene regulates tolerance to multiple stresses in yeast. Here, we show the effects of drought stress on leaf and root tissues of plants over-expressing OsSAP in relation to the levels of phytohormones, ab...
متن کاملInvolvement of Secondary Metabolites in Response to Drought Stress of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)
In this study, responses of rice under drought stress correlating with changes in chemical compositions were examined. Among 20 studied rice cultivars, Q8 was the most tolerant, whereas Q2 was the most susceptible to drought. Total phenols, total flavonoids, and antioxidant activities, and their accumulation in water deficit conditions were proportional to drought resistance levels of rice. In ...

The present study deals with the influence of Vermiwash on germination and growth of Cow pea Vigna ungiculata and Rice Oryza sativa grown for a period of 25 days. Vermicompost was prepared by using earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae and by using cowdung and leaf litter in the ratio of 1: 1. Vermiwash was prepared from the vermibed. The physico – chemical and microbiological characteristics of the ver...
